An event for anyone who works with kids, has kids, or ever was a kid!
Join Gretchen Goerlitz and special guest speaker Dr.Gray from the Counseling and Psychology Center for the workshop Experience Shapes Who We Are: Making Sense of Life on April 12th, 2015 from 2:00-4:30 pm at the Evergreen Public Library.
Most people love their family and want to give them a happy home, but they may become overwhelmed by the dynamics of familial relationships. They may find themselves saying “I don’t want to yell, but they push my buttons and I get so mad that I can’t seem to stop myself”. Many people are surprised by their own behavior when they react more harshly toward others than they ever imagined they would.
This workshop is designed to introduce techniques that will help individuals make sense of their own life: both past and present. We will examine the neurobiology of experience through the scientific approach called “interpersonal neurobiology” (neuroscience + attachment research) which will increase understanding of the mind body connection. Topics such as brain laterality, implicit and explicit memory, along with rupture, repair, shame and healing will enhance understanding of how childhood experiences can influence our mind and body and affect our important relationships.
Yoga will be introduced for all levels (beginner through regular practitioners) and taught in conjunction with Interpersonal Neurobiology in order to teach the mind body connection, calm the central nervous system, and create a sense of inner peace. Yoga as described here is NOT the Western version which is "exercise" but it is the Eastern version of connecting with the self, connecting with the breath, and healing the body from the inside out.
Yoga is proven to decrease stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, Schizophrenia, and sleep disorders as well as effects of trauma. Yoga increases self-confidence, self-worth, emotion regulation, focus, concentration, memory, attention, social skills, willpower, feelings of joy and other positive emotions. Enjoy this soothing introduction to the benefits of yoga.
